We welcome you back to our 3rd edition of SUNGLASS SUNDAYS at DIRTYBAR. Thank you DESYN MASIELLO for what was another epic night. The music was classic with a new age twist blended in perfect harmony. People dancing on tables synced to each others bodies moving to one beat. With him was a very sexy performance by INDECENT EXPOSURE followed by the dirty techno of OLIVER CAINE. This week we bring a very influential Dj to DC as one of the creators of LIFE/DC… our very own SARAH MYERS who will be broadcasting her set live on radio at http://www.deradio.ca . Then as we go into the night, RAINIER RODRIGUEZ will play for you a full production of percussion drums fused with his miami tech house sound.

TUNE IN from 6:00 – 8:00 PM PM (EST) for the LIVE broadcast
http://deradio.ca/component/eventlist/details/458-sarah-myers-life

-We ask you all to help support us as we welcome our guest and as SUNGLASS SUNDAYS with RACH EVENTS provide you the same shenanigans with original music at a new, incredible location where we can be ourselves while enjoying the music we love so much. Dirty Bar has opened their rooftop deck to share this special moment with us.

So join us as we push to enlighten DC with our music but also share in some new relationships with different people under the same sound with one beat.

* About our Guest *

RAINIER RODRIGUEZ

This talented musician was born in Venezuela on July 6th 1983. He started to fall in love with music at a very early age, and in time, started to develop certain abilities in various instruments such as guitar, Latin percussion instruments like congas, timbales, and auxiliary percussion. As he played in several bands, music became very natural to him and that´s when he started to think of a way in which he could play all this beautiful instruments and create the power of harmony, rhythm and melody. There is no doubt that for this young talented guy, music has definitely become a huge part of his life, soul and identity.
In August 2000, and in pursuit of the American dream, he crossed Venezuelan frontiers and moved to U.S.A (Washington D.C), where at the age of 17 and while attending high school took guitar & music theory lessons. Later on, in college, he took one year of harmony, melody and music composition, and in 2003, his hunger for knowledge, led him to study Latin Jazz in Towson University and to become part of the jazz ensemble, which reinforced his knowledge on the afro Cuban roots, that´s when he got his first Dj Set. For this young, talented, and proactive Venezuelan, the art of mixing came very easy, considering his music foundations, but just knowing how to mix, was never enough for him. After years of experience playing in Washington D.C, led to him to develop de real art of Djing, which is reading, working and persuading a crowd to feel the groove. This skill opened for him, the doors of some of the most respected nightclubs in D.C such as: LOVE, Fur night club, Lima, G-Stop, Penthouse-Midtown, Current, Josephines, Sweet-VIP Cafe Citron, Lupe, Sutra, Eden, Eyebar, Funxion, Yuca, Avenue, MCXIII (1223), Mezzaluna, Gazuza, Guaparos, Gallery, Chicha ,Indebleu ,Chroma(UltraBar), Grass (Miami) Anzu ,Divas , Andalu , Uptown, B52 (Venezuela) Birras (Venezuela) Draft (Venezuela) Gentilicio (Puerto La Cruz-Venezuela).

Dj KiKi broke into the South Beach scene at an early age, quickly developing a sound of her own and a strong fan base to accompany it. The Venezuela-native was first exposed to electronic music at age 12 while on a trip to France and Spain, and a love affair with Dance music, Euro beats and Latin rythms ensued thereafter.
Her passion for music has been influenced by artists such as Depeche Mode, Guns N Roses, The Doors, RHCP, Pearl Jam and DJs Chus and Ceballos, Abel Ramos, Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia, Mario Ochoa, George Acosta and Steve Lawler among others.

Dj KiKi’s sexy fusion of Tribal, Progressive and Deep House beats has set her apart from the rest on the scene. With appearances at the world renowned Discotekka, Ultra Music Festival, and the Official L Word Party at Club Rumor, she continues to expand the reach of her sound with performances in Boston, New York City and Washington D.C.

Ali Shirazinia, commonly known by his stage name Dubfire, is an Iranian American house and techno DJ and producer. Prior to his solo career, Dubfire was one-half of the four-time nominated and Grammy Award-winning duo Deep Dish. Dubfire’s style is noticeably different than that of Deep Dish, consisting of techno instead of progressive house.

Shirazinia was born in Iran and moved with his family to the Washington, DC area at a young age.

During his youth he listened to mostly classic Hip-Hop, jazz/rare groove, dub reggae, new wave and industrial and was also influenced by the local punk scene and the music of Washington DC-based bands including Fugazi and Minor Threat. Shirazinia frequented a local record store called Yesterday And Today Records, where he became acquainted with the sounds of artists like Kraftwerk, Ministry, Jesus & Mary Chain, Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, Adrian Sherwood of On-U Sound and Einstürzende Neubauten.

In 1991, Shirazinia and fellow DC resident Sharam Tayebi formed Deep Dish, a DJ and production duo that became notable for their productions and DJ sets. Deep Dish released acclaimed dance classics beginning with the 1995 remix of De’Lacy ‘Hideaway,’ and went on to work with an eclectic array of names in pop, rock and electronica. Shirazinia and Tayebi established Deep Dish Records, and they went on to win a Grammy in 2002 for their remix of Dido’s “Thank You” along with many other high-profile awards. Following their successes as Deep Dish, both Shirazinia and Tayebi began to produce and DJ individually.

Shirazinia used his long-time stage name “Dubfire” for his solo productions. Shirazinia’s solo sound differs noticeably from that of Deep Dish, consisting of minimal, techno, and house instead of the predominantly progressive house sound of Deep Dish. His production I Feel Speed, which is a cover of an obscure Love & Rockets song, features his own vocals. The track symbolically and sonically marked a crossroads in Shirazinia’s music career, fusing Deep Dish’s vocal-driven progressive house with darker, edgier sounds. Shirazinia also sings in In Love With a Friend on Deep Dish’s debut album. I Feel Speed has appeared in the advertisement of the Volkswagen Eos.

In 2007, Shirazinia announced the launch of his new record label, Science + Technology Digital Audio, also known simply as SCI + TEC.[1] He set the label up as an outlet to release his new music and began quietly unleashing a string of remarkable tracks. 2007′s electro-tech track ‘Roadkill’ edged Dubfire ever closer to a techno sensibility, while the stripped-back ‘RibCage’ became the first ever release on Loco Dice’s heralded Desolat label, becoming an instant classic.

Dubfire followed up with an onslaught of dancefloor-igniting releases, landing on some of electronic music’s leading labels. Richie Hawtin, who signed Dubfire’s ‘Emissions’ to his highly respected Minus label, also released Dubfire’s rework of ‘Spastik’ (the classic track that Hawtin produced in 1993 under his Plastikman alias) as an official re-work. Soon thereafter, Sven Vath’s Cocoon Records took notice and released some of Dubfire’s music, cementing his extraordinary reinvention.

With each release, Dubfire’s profile soared higher. Two top 10 tracks in Resident Advisor’s 100 Most Charted Records of 2007, IDJ Magazine’s Player of the Year in 2008, nominations for Beatport’s Best Minimal Artist and Best Techno Artist in 2008 and 2009, covers on countless music magazines, mixes for Mixmag, BBC Radio 1′s Essential Mix, and DJ Magazine – the accolades and achievements came thick and fast.

In 2009, Dubfire produced a remix on Danton Eeprom and Radio Slave’s ‘Grindhouse’ which encapsulated everything that Dubfire stands for today: dark rhythms, superior audio, and technological brilliance. It crossed nearly every genre and was the apex of a unique sound that DJ Magazine called “jet-black, polished chrome techno.” Groove and Raveline Magazine named it the Best Remix of the Year.

Dubfire’s recent work has seen him co-produce tracks with celebrated British electronic music act Underworld, release a two-disc compilation with Loco Dice for Cocoon, additional remixes of Plastikman material, and a collaborative project with respected producer Oliver Huntemann. Throughout his remarkable journey, Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label has continued to grow and is now home to a roster of globally based artists.

::: BIOSPHERE | MARCO CAROLA :::

Marco Carola is the recognized global ambassador of Italian techno. It’s a position he treats with the utmost care and respect—and one that stands him among the hallowed company of contemporary techno’s leading practitioners. Hailing from Napoli in the south of the country, Marco was among a small group of DJs and promoters who quite literally built the city’s scene from scratch back in the early-’90s. In 1995′s First Planet EP he became the first Neopolitan artist to commit techno to vinyl, paving the way for an entire generation of producers. These days Marco is a mainstay of Richie Hawtin’s Minus and Plus 8 labels, who, much like Marco himself, are one of the driving forces behind techno’s permeation of the worldwide dance scene.

Napoli, 1993, and the enduring flame of the Italo house sound had begun to smolder. The young DJ Marco Carola had at this point been spinning house music for a number of years— but as commercial club music began to assert a stranglehold over Italy, and the hopelessly insular media of the country’s north continues to shun the south, a change is afoot. Fuelled by a groundswell of local DJs, clubbers and promoters; visits from DJs like Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills; and Napoli’s long held propensity for underground music, the city’s techno scene enters into its embryonic stage. Marco along with friends Davide Squillace, Gaetano Parisio, Danilo Vigorito, Rino Cerrone and Random Noize are at the vanguard of this early movement, and with no one outside of the city to take cues from, the Neopolitan scene becomes a force unto itself.

If they’re doing their job properly every DJ will have a calling card, and as Marco puts it, he was “born” with a three-deck style of mixing. This fast and furious approach also lent itself to use of a sampler, which would later provide the grounding for Marco’s work as a producer. By 1995 he had amassed a considerable body of music, but with no indigenous labels to put-out his creations, Marco was forced to take matters into his own hands. Design Music was set up with a humble aim: for people to experience the music of Marco Carola. But as sales on its initial release, First Planet, entered into the tens of thousands and Sven Vath became an ardent early supporter, it was clear Design, and by extension Carola, were set for far bigger things.

Aiding this ascent was Marco’s concise approach to the release of music. The remainder of the ’90s saw him establish the Zenit, Question and One Thousand labels—all with a clear musical aim, and, in the case of the latter, a defined number of releases. In 1998 he relocated to Frankfurt in order to further his advancement in the burgeoning techno scene. This new home base unlocked myriad opportunities for him to export his now famous three-deck style to clubs across the globe, although by 2001 he was already seeking a fresh challenge and thusly moved on to the electronic music stronghold of London. In retrospect the year proved to be pivotal. Marco released his second album, Open System (following on from 1998′s The 1000 Collection), to widespread critical acclaim. Key German publication Groove deemed its multifarious, texturally rich approach to broken beats, techno and electronica worthy of their album of the year accolade.

Renewal: for a 20-year veteran such as Marco, shedding your creative skin and following your instincts are fundamental means of remaining relevant. By 2004 he had reached a plateau of sorts, and was torn. The harder techno sound he’d been pushing for so many years had elevated him to the scene’s top tier, but inside he harboured a burning desire for musical upheaval; a lust for refinement, to slow things down and get back to the groove. Now residing back in Napoli, Marco began a process of reinvention, starting with a focus on bookings at smaller clubs with more underground sensibilities that better suited his new, more considered style and offered the opportunity to hone it over the course of longer, extended sessions. Domestic Minimal Noise was set-up as a bridge between the Marco Carola of old and new, evidenced by the label’s pacey yet undoubtedly funk-fuelled output.

The encapsulation of this transformation came a couple of years later, however, as Marco reneged on his stance of not recording mix CDs (he always felt his three-deck, club-ready style was inappropriate for the form) and agreed to contribute to London club fabric’s seminal mix series. Fabric 31 was a lesson in sleek, future-facing minimalism. The disc introduced Marco to an entirely new audience and clearly illustrated an artist revelling in a fresh creative perspective.

2007′s Apena would also prove to be hugely significant. The release heralded his first collaboration with Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8/Minus stable. This family environment has since established a platform from which Marco has been encouraged to express himself with unbridled creative freedom. The most widely recognized example of this was 2008′s undeniable earworm “Bloody Cash” which garnered Plus 8 with one of that year’s biggest techno tracks. Both Minus and Plus 8 have continued to host his 12-inch productions at regular intervals (Plus One, Plus Two and Walking Dog to name a few), and in 2M Marco has been granted his own sub-label (strictly limited to 2000 copies per release) to curate as he sees fit.
Ibiza has become more and more of a key destination for Marco through the years, and in 2010 this was solidified by his residency at Cocoon’s Monday night Amnesia sessions. Party ringleader Sven Vath showed further faith in Marco by asking him to mix Cocoon’s Party Animals CD alongside Nick Curly, building on the foundations laid down by Marco’s double-disc Time Warp 2009 mix, which married the deeper house end of his range with his now trademark groove-ridden techno.

When it came to following up Open System Marco knew it must be with something exceptional. “I’ve been working like crazy on Play It Loud,” he says on the travail behind his latest full-length. “I’ve never been working like this, not even when I was a kid and I wanted to be known!” The resulting album is the perfect amalgamation of Marco’s DJ and production sensibilities. Play It Loud’s 18 tracks are presented in mix form and explore what proved for Marco to be a highly fertile middle-ground between home listening and the dancefloor—a reduced tempo and complete creative license from Minus allowed Marco to burrow deeper into his sound than ever before. “I always try to do something new,” he says. “When I produce, or when I DJ, I don’t really think about where I want to go musically, I just start to feel.”

////////////////////////////////////////////

**RAINIER RODRIGUEZ** [DJRAINIER.COM] [GOOD HOUSE DC]

This talented musician was born in Venezuela on July 6th 1983. He started to fall in love with music at a very early age, and in time, started to develop certain abilities in various instruments such as guitar, Latin percussion instruments like congas, timbales, and auxiliary percussion. As he played in several bands, music became very natural to him and that´s when he started to think of a way in which he could play all this beautiful instruments and create the power of harmony, rhythm and melody. There is no doubt that for this young talented guy, music has definetly become a huge part of his life, soul and identity.

For this young, talented, and proactive Venezuelan, the art of mixing became very easy, considering his music foundations, but just knowing how to mix, was never enough for him. After years of experience playing in Washington D.C, led to him to develop de real art of Djing, which is reading, working and persuading a crowd to feel the groove. This skill opened for him, the doors of some of the most respected nightclubs in D.C such as: Fur night club, Yuca , Avenue, MCXIII (1223), Lima , Mezzaluna, Gazuza, Guaparos, Gallery, Chicha ,Indebleu ,Chroma(UltraBar), Grass (Miami) Anzu ,Divas , Andalu , Uptown, B52 (Venezuela) Birras (Venezuela) Draft (Venezuela)

Do not think for one second that this Latin Dj will bore you with the same set all the time, for he has absolutely no genre limitations. As a musician, he has learned to respect every kind of music. He believes that there is time, a place, a mood and a vibe for every style of music. “I can play for any Crowd”. That is definetly the challenge that keeps him alive every day. He loves music, but above all, electronic music is what rocks his world, and what WILL rock yours too.
